Swimsuit Shopping

Swimsuit shopping, we all can agree as women, that this particular shopping trip is never enjoyable.  We can shop for just about anything and make it fun!  Trip to Walgreens, always a favorite.  Resale shops can have hidden treasures.  Even a quick trip to the pet store can be fun.  But swimsuit shopping, no matter the store, is NEVER fun.  Thankfully this trip was for my daughter, not me. WHEW!

I was nervous about this outing, because we were on the search to find a modest swimsuit that Megan could wear to Jr. High Camp this summer.  Did I mention the camp is Co-Ed this year?  So not only did we need to stick within the guidelines of the camp, but we needed to find something the boys would not find especially appealing.  Now grant you, some boys will find just about anything appealing on the opposite sex, even a paper bag.  But in this case, we had to put forth extra effort.

Now, just a disclaimer.... my daughter is very modest.  I have only had to tell her a few times about short/skirt length because of the school guidelines.  There is a 4" limit and once or twice her shorts or skirts were just above that limit.  But for the most part, I do not have to worry about her flaunting her body to anyone.  So I wasn't worried about her, I was worried about the fashion designers.  Would we be able to even find an appropriate swimsuit?  Where would we find an appropriate swimsuit?  Those were the questions that kept coming to my mind.

My daughter is a wonderful young women, but she has this habit of thinking that I can read her mind.  She tends to leave out important details when we discuss things.  Like for instance, when she suggested going to shop at Justice, all I could think of is "they never have your size".  But she didn't tell me that she had already shopped online and fallen in love with a swimsuit.  That would have been a helpful piece of information to share with me, don't you think?

So after an hour at another store and countless unappropriate swimsuits, we headed to Justice.  As we were driving there I kept thinking, "this is such a waste of time" and I started mapping out other stores to visit next.  To my surprise, Justice proved to be the store to shop at this year.  They offered a wide variety of modest swimsuits and very fashionable styles.  Yes, I am still eating my words today.

So what is the point of this post?  Well for all the Moms out there that use the excuse, "you just can't find any modest clothes anymore, because designers don't make them," I say to them BOLOGNA! They do make them, we as moms need to be proactive in looking for them.  We need to put aside our lazy attitudes and protect our daughters from the lies the world throws at them.  We need to show our daughters that it's ok to say, "No, I won't wear that, because I am better than that cheap image you want me to protray."  And once in a while we need to trust our daughter's judgement in shopping.

Today's verse is this:

"Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.  Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is - His good, pleasing, and perfect will."  Romans 12:2
