Change Part One

Change. That has been the word surrounding our family lately. Change and more change. Starting with Megan, she started third grade this year along with a new school. In our school district we have two grade schools. The kids spend the first couple of years at Spring Bluff, then they transfer to Westfield to complete elementary school, before going onto North Prairie for Jr. High. Megan was so nervous about starting Westfield. You see last year during a field trip there, she got separated from her class and was completely lost in one of the four hallways. Poor girl. All summer long she fretted about starting school. As it got closer, she got more nervous. Then throw on top of starting a new school, the fact that she got the one teacher she didn't want. When she saw the class list with her name under that teacher's name, the tears started to flow. She was trying to be brave, because we had her friend, Kaitlynn with us. But as I looked in the rearview mirror of the van, I saw the look of terror on her face. For three days I encouraged and supported, trying to help my daughter over this fear. At the same time trying to hide my own fear. You see I was also a little nervous about this teacher. But the night of the Open House helped ease both of our fears. And by the third day of school, Megan was thrilled to have Mrs. Davis for her teacher. Especially when she was allowed to bring Sammy, the class pet, home for the long Labor Day weekend. Sammy, the raccoon, a stuffed animal that the class takes turns bringing home on weekends. Part of the weekend includes taking pictures of Sammy with the family where ever they go. So Sammy got to go up north to Appleton, WI with us to visit Aunt Mary and Uncle Steve. It was really funny when we told Aunt Mary and Uncle Steve we were bringing our new creature to visit. For three hours they were trying to figure out what kind of creature was going to be staying in their house. They were sure it was a lizard. I don't know how they came up with that one. But they both looked relieved to see it was a stuffed animal. Of course Megan loved every minute of teasing her Great Uncle Steve. I think Uncle Steve secretly loves being teased by his animated little niece just as much. Enjoy the pics and I will let you in on Change Part Two later.....
